Great tools, resources, and products for mental health can be very beneficial to improving and maintaining ones emotional and mental well-being. Thanks to technology we have access to almost everything right at our fingertips or a click of a button. This can be a double-edged sword. If you have ever hopped on Pinterest to find a quick recipe, went to the App Store searching for something specific, or even typed into a Google search engine…you know exactly what I mean! We are shown different images, apps, and information that may pique our interest. This has become even more apparent with the evolution of algorithms and AI. Starting out to search and find something simple can become quite complex, overwhelming, and down right time consuming. Again, most of us are glad the information is out there…but there is so much information, right? Where do we begin?
One of my goals as a mental health provider is to help narrow this down by sharing useful tools and resources that I have researched and used in practice or in my personal life. The word for this that initially comes to mind is “vetted.” Though, I believe the new, improved, popular, and more accurate verb to use in this scenario is “curated.” I am not considered an “influencer,” but I am considered a mental health expert, so the purpose here is share these curated mental health resources, tools, and products that I find worthwhile.
The first product I want to talk about is called Loóna. It is an app that can be downloaded from the Google Play or Apple App Store (compatible with android and iOS). I initially started using this app for personal use to help me fall asleep. I have had this app on my phone for over 2 years now. Since then, I have used it for myself, with my kids, and with clients in practice. This app helps improve sleep, reduce anxiety, and quiet the mind. It is rated E for everyone. My 8-year-old son loves this and has used it to help with situational anxiety and to help him fall asleep at night.
With new clients, I initially start with an eclectic approach to sharing these tools with the caveat that these tools aren’t one size fits all. Everyone is different, so what one person likes or finds helpful, may not be the case for the next person. With that being said, I have not gathered any negative feedback regarding the efficacy of Loóna.
Loóna offers calming audio/music, affirmations, interactive coloring sessions, and more. The app incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy strategies, grounding techniques, imagery, positive psychology, and relaxation. This is a great app because its effective and engaging, yet it doesn’t feel like therapy.
Pros: It is user friendly and accessible to Android and iOS users. It is rated E for everyone, and I have personally found that it is helpful for most people across the lifespan. The version upgrades do not disappoint! Initially, the app seemed to be geared toward relaxation and sleep. Now, the app offers specific activities to target anxiety.
Cons: This is a subscription. There is a free trial period, and then if you wish to continue with the app there is an annual fee.
If you are in search of an app that aids in reducing stress, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping, I recommend Loóna. It is super easy to use, pleasing, and, most importantly…it works!
Visit loona.app for more information. Access the app on Google Play or the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
